Khaki leather band peeling?

My wife bought me a Khaki Aviator for my birthday a few weeks ago, which was the perfect gift. But, after a few weeks of occasional wear, the side of the band has started to peek off. I can see the leather, but there is some dark coating that's coming off on the edge, almost like delaminating. It hasn't gotten wet, so I think the issue started from just fastening the buckle and bending the strap to go through the guides. I bought this watch for my mom for her birthday 2 months ago. She told me its a nice watch but its impossible to tell time do to the graphics.I wish she was able to tell time because I know she would had liked it better.
