When was my OMEGA made?

I have a 2254.50, I wonder how you can tell when the watch was made? Where do you go to check serial number of a watch? Mine is 81547xxxAlso, if I was to buy a vintage watch, can I prove it's authenticity by the serial number?Thanks........

Used for fishing. This was a replacement of an earlier model I had. It works, but is very bulky.
