Date feature on Automatic Movement

How does the watch "know" when to switch the date? Is it possible for the watch to be 12 hours off (ie. switch the date at noon instead of midnight)? Just curious since I don't really know how a date complication works.........

This watch exceeded my expectations. It's a nice, femminine look and er than I thought, but a perfect everyday watch. It has a pearl finish and is smooth. Very pretty. I'm lucky that I also got it on sale!
