Just come across my grandfathers watches and all start to run for a couple seconds then stop. Can anyone tell whats wrong from my basic description? I just finished reading this book and was facinated with what John Harrison went through to get his works recognized by the Longitude Board in the 1700's. Another interesting note is his first clock made entirely of wood is still working to this day. I did not realize the calculation of Longitude was so inaccurate then, and how determined one group was to have a celestial method dominate. it is an interesting read for those into horology.........
