Repair Shop Shock - Money, Money, Money!
I went today to one of the more upscale watch repair/dealer to get an estimate on repairing a vintage chronograph -$400.00! and that's just for a mainspring. Also to repair a 1880's Hamilton pocket watch $300.00. Admitedly the P/W needed crystal, hands, and a balance shaft but Jeez Louise I can't believe the prices. $200.00 to clean a watch, more if it's a chrono. The days of the old gent with the little bench in the back room is rapidly disappearing. These gents would look at a watch and say,........
