Lighter fuel?

I read recently that using lighter fuel, i.e light grade petrol is acceptable when cleaning watch movements.Question: Will it have an adverse affect on the shellac used to insulate the coils in quartz watches or are you supposed to dismantle the movement first? ThanksBrew........
