I Finally Finished Lieutanant Philip Mitchell Niederaur's WWI Elgin Trench Watch ! !
It took me nearly four months to finish Lieutanant Philip Mitchell Niederaur's WWI trench watch but I think that he would be proud to see it back in this kind of condition! I did this restoration as close to 100% original as humanly possible. The dial looks SUPERB! Restored to the original Butler "off white" finish using the original Elgin dial die number 6! Even the lum has been re-applied to the military numerals and the hands. The movement has been overhauled, the case has a mirror like finis........
Elgin Trench Watch
I just acquired a 1919 (?) Elgin Trench Watch which runs beautifully. The dial is almost perfect. The former owner replaced the strap and in doing so, it appears that he/she dislodged one of the wire lugs. Can these wire lugs be repaired (soldered???)I am a rookie with these trench watches. I have two and neither has the wire lugs.HELP.........
