I was thinking about this today. Wind up watches and autowinders are less accurate than quartz (soul-less quartz, I know). Not just because the escapement oscillates at a slower and less consistent speed than quartz, but because the rate of the movement is affected by everything from the resting position, to a quick snap of the wrist. It's interestingas an aficionado of fine writing instruments (fountain pens) there were years where I wouldn't touch a ball pen of any kind, unless I was using ........
