Hamilton 14kgf Square with a"METAL" center

Has anyone else located a Hamilton Square with a center stamped as "METAL"? This one all matches, but it has a 986A movement. The portion of the center stamped "METAL" is clearly a white metal as opposed to the rest of the green (or yellow) filled case. I have wondered for the year or 2 that I've owned it if it might have been an undocumented WWII-issued watch?
