How does one ID a vintage Hamilton?

I went thru this forum and searched with "identification" and "vintage" without success. I have a watch and i want to know more about it. I don't want to sell it although it doesn't run at the moment and will need to be repaired so I can wear it.I'd also like to know how to take the watch apart enough to see the movement. It is a rectangular mens watch with "Hamilton" and "D72" on the face. It also has 14K Gold Filled and S&W on the back and 1/20 14K on the band. I've gotten the movemen........
