Advice on buying Vintage Watches

I am looking to get an vintage Omega Seamaster watch and was hoping for some advice/tips. I have never bought vintage before so I am a little worried. I must say I was underwhelmed by this watch when I received it. Online it looks sleek and shiny, but to me the actual appearance is a bit dull, and the face is much er than expected. Overall, it's just an average watch.
