The Beat Goes On, And Sometimes Off.
Tow watches I've fixed in the last week are in need of being put back in beat. One is the Lord Elgin Cranbrook, with a 680 movement. I put it back together, and unlike dang near every other watch I've worked on it did NOT start right up when the balance went back in. I had to give it a spin, and then it ran. When I timed it, instead of the 'ticks' every 0.2 seconds, the 'tick' is shorter than the 'tock', but they average out to 0.2 seconds, so the overall rate is pretty close. BUT it's not........

Kinda cool looking dress piece,probably looks better than it should.Picked it up for a couple dollars...literally...not running but a battery should fix that if I can get the back off.Did some checking on the auction site and therein lies the problem,priced from $35.00 on up to $900.+??? I'm not that naive to think that this is a $300.00 watch but why all the discrepancies??Anyone...............
