Radium dials and hands -- how long did/do old original 1920's radium wristwatch glow?
I know that radium is radioactive for thousands of years as its half-life is around 1,600 years. I also know that radium is no longer used today, as this process stopped to a great deal by the 1960s. That said, how long should a typical 1920s radium watch dial and hands glow? While I have found no definitive answer, it seems questionable whether most "original" 1920s dials should still be glowing today, because the radium-226 (or 228) mixed with the zinc sulfide (salts) to display this glow ........
