Christmas just got better

Some of you will be aware that last month I was told I may be losing my job and unfortunately last Friday that day arrived. The thought of being out of work scared me a lot. Trying to find work this time of year is really hard as a lot of places are winding down for the festivities.Looking at some of the fine watches on the forum only made me jealous as I was now in a position where I may have to give up my beloved SMP to help pay the bills. The redundancy I received was pitiful and our savings ........

Just saw it on The Swamp

Y'all may remember my posting a couple months ago of an Elgin 670 movement I had acquired. It was damaskeened, and gold plated, and was one of 1000 Elgin made to commemorate the 50 Millionth Elgin watch? It had apparently been stripped out of one of the special 18kt cases which presumably was melted. Well, there's one up on The Swamp now - 220918529458. This one has all kinds of problems - the dial was redone incorrectly - now reads 'Elgin' instead of 'Lord Elgin' and the damaskeened and gold........

I've had this watch since July 2006, and have cherished it since. However, just one thing to beware of, this watch cannot be retrofitted with a metal wrist strap. Ironically it's sibling that comes with the metal (titanium) strap has a different case back i.e. it has deeper scalloping to allow the metal strap to connect to the watch. The leather band watch does not have this deeper scalloping and so will not allow attachment of a metal strap. In conclusion if you think you will one day switch from one strap material to the next, then it may pay to get the metal strap variant, allowing retrofitting of a leather strap at a later date.
