Speedmaster day-date question

Hi guys i'm new to the forum and just got an Omega Speedmaster with the month, day, and date function. It's my first automatic (hopefully first of many to come). It has a 3 position crown, and I was wondering if any of you guys had any experience with how to set the day, date, and month, and in what order. I don't have a winder yet, and I don't wear it every day but i try to put it on enough to keep it running, and i know at some point it's going to run out. The manual is generic and very vag........
