Starting up an old Omega Skeleton

Hello Watch Talk member,I just received my first ever vintage watch. It's a 1906 modified Omega skeleton converted to a wristwatch. I know it's not "original" but just fell it love with the way it looks. What I'm wondering is about getting the watch started. It has been explained to me that the older watches should never be wound too tightly. Of course, it's not running right now since I just got it out of the shipping box. It winds ("ratchets") very easily counterclockwise but there seems........

Cost of materials?

Have you ever wondered how much the materials cost in a high end watch...as a percentage of its price?This came up after I noticed that watches with solid gold alloy cases are FAR more expensive by thousands of dollars...in spite of the fact that the actual gold content might only be an additional $800.00.Strangely enough, there don't seem to be any solid brass cases available. An alloy of 74% Copper, 25% Zinc and 1% Tin would have a gold like colour and some corrosion resistance.........
