Vintage Elgin worth it?

I was offered this vintage mechanical Egin (not a Lord Elgin) today for $40 from a family member. Sorry for the poor quality pic (best I could get on my cell phone).It's gold tone, brownish/pinkish face with blue hands, and flexible lugs. I was told it's a 1929 model. The only thing stamped on the back is some sort of symbol and 'Base Metal'. Very nice condition. Is it worth getting for $40? Please give opinions. Thanks!It's similar in style to this one.........

I bought this watch for my husband for Christmas and while I was wrapping it my 23 year old son came in and tried to talk me in to giving it to him or at least order him one. So I think it will be a hit.
