Two questions - watch strap fit and deploymant

First, I just picked up a brown strap to go with my Seiko Spirit to use until I buy a more expensive, hand-sewn strap. The strap that came with my Seiko fit fairly tight, and after wearing in, it fit on the second to last notch on the end of the strap (i.e. the end of the strap - not where it attaches to the watch). I assumed this was a little too tight, so I got my new strap in a Long. I had the salesman attach the strap to my watch, and I didn't think about it at the time, but now I'm wonderin........

I received this watch as a Christmas present. The watch is very attractive and would look great in every occasion, but the band was far too . I have an average wrist, but the watch did not even fit around my fiance's petite wrist.
