Quartz Chronograph Movements

I've been looking for some info on quartz chronographs. I have been told that running the chronograph all the time can drain the battery much quicker but I've also been told that the worst thing for a watch is to not run it. Should the chronograph be run on a regular basis and how often would be good for the movement?........
