What is the Difference between Vertical Clutch and Oscilating Pinion?

I ask this because lately I have been very interested in chronographs offered by Seiko and TAG.the 8R28 in particular from Seiko and the Caliber 1887 from TAG.I like the TAG Carrera with the new column wheel movement. I know is based on the 6S37 from Seiko.Any info would be appreciated.Thanks........
