Why Paul Newman dial?

On page 2 in MBHawaii's Daytona post I asked why it is refered to as the Paul Newman dial? I know who PN was and his relation to racing , but is it all contrasting sub dial Daytonas that are refered to as Paul Newmans? And why? A little history would be great, espically with some vintage Daytona pics. Thanks for any and all information in advance.........

I gave this to my husband for his 40th birthday. He absolutely loved it. It is very stylish and well made. It can easily be worn with his suits, but he generally prefers to sport it with business casual attire.
