watch mods: an appropriate subject?

Well, I managed to find a MINT MIL-W-46374D Type 1 and I love it. I like the way the second hand sweeps and how accurate and long it lasts on a full wind. But the down side is that I am afraid to wear it in the field, its just too darn perfect to beat up.I have been thinking about fitting an H3 Dial on a military style LL Bean that I wouldn't be worried about. Has anybody done that before?........
