  Just watched the William Haines MGM sort-of-silent pic "Speedway", which I highly recommend (with music and sound effects but otherwise silent, similar to the contemporaneous 1928 "Wings"). It's offered by Warner Classics (wbshop) as a DVD-R (played for me with no problems). Well, the checkered black and white flags used for starting and ending the race were similar to some of the engravings on ........

• New Watch: Bulova Exeter 65C105

  Should say newish. It was a floor model and it has a few minor scratches on the back of the case. The band, crystal, and case are pristine though. It is a quartz, but it does feature a large date at the 12 o'clock position and a retrograde day indicator at the bottom. I'm sucker for day and date watches.........
